ABOUT

Dustin McKenzie, the current Field School Director

Dustin McKenzie took over as Director of the Cabrillo College Archaeology Field School during the 2008 field season. While there is no longer an offical Archaeological Technology Program (ATP), the field school is still successfully held every other year.

Rob Edwards was the first to teach archaeology at Cabrillo College in 1971. The first Cabrillo College excavation was in January 1972 and has continued over the years.

The ATP was developed as a vocation training program in 1991 - 1992 and became formally accredited in 1994. From that time on, CCATP offered a four class sequence each year that involved three weeks of survey, excavation, laboratory and data management and resulted in both an A.A. in Anthropology and an Archaeological Technician's certificate. After 2008, the formal program was closed down.

Over the years, CCATP has worked with organizations such as the US Forst Service, the Presidio of San Francisco, the National Park Service, California State Parks and the Bureau of Land Management.

While there is no longer an Archaeological Technology Program, the field school continues to provide students with a valuable education and skill set they can use to begin a career in archaeology.
